Yesterday, a tragic accident occurred on the D-605 highway in the Çayırköy region.
A truck with the license plate 41 APV 561, driven by an unidentified driver, collided with two cars, with license plates 38 AFN 983 and 16 FCH 74, waiting at a traffic light. Following the accident, the truck driver fled the scene.
Authorities were alerted, and the area was quickly responded to by the gendarmerie, medical, and firefighting teams. Four individuals, including two children, from the car with the license plate 16 FCH 74 were rescued by firefighters after being trapped. The runaway driver later surrendered to the gendarmerie. Tragically, Miray Kaya (13) and her 7-year-old sister Elif, who were in the car, passed away despite all efforts made at the hospital. Their mother, Hatice Kaya, is currently in critical condition, while their father, Şenol Kaya, is reported to be in good health. The two sisters were laid to rest at the Şirinsulhiye Cemetery after a funeral ceremony at the Merkez Mosque in Kartepe Şirinsulhiye neighborhood. The grieving father, who is still receiving treatment at the hospital, accepted condolences from a distance during the funeral. Kartepe Mayor Av. Mustafa Kocaman and numerous citizens attended the funeral to pay their respects to the family. .
